A bemutatkozó szövegünk feltöltésre vár, addig itt egy kis történelem:

Az íjászat az egyik olyan tevékenység, sport, amely hazánk teljes történelmét lefeledi. Nem csak a magyar történelemben azonban, hanem azon túl is rendkívül színes az íjászat történelme.

Az első, íjászatra utaló emlékek kb. 50.000 évvel ezelőttről maradtak fenn. Eleinte elsősorban, ahogy a történelem során később is leggyakrabban, vadászatra használták az íjat. Ezt követte a harcászati célokra történő felhasználás.

Az ókori civilizációk egyik legfontosabb fegyvere volt az íj, ebben az időben minden nagy sereg rendelkezett íjászokkal. Az ókori hadseregek után a középkorban Európában is megjelent az íjászat. Ebben az időszakban inkább a vadászat szempontjából volt népszerű az íjászat, a hadseregekben nem játszottak olyan fontos szerepet már az íjászok. Ezt hazánk történelme változtatta meg, ugyanis a 9-10. században a magyarok voltak azok, akik lovasíjászaiknak köszönhetően jelentős eredményeket értek el a kalandozások, harcászat területén.

Ezt követően az angolok is az íjászat mellett tették le voksukat, a hosszúíjászok csaták sorát döntötték el.

Az 1900-as évek elején az olimpiák versenyszámai közötti is megjelent az íjászat, de rendszeresen csak 1972 óta rendeznek íjászatot olimpián.

Láthatjuk, hogy régebben a vadászat, harcászat voltak azok, amik az íjászatot jelentették, manapság azonban a sport és a hagyományőrzés keretein belül találkozhatunk legtöbbször íjászokkal.
